Fort de Lantin
In Lantin, at the corner of the streets of Fort and Villers, we discover a corner of greenery in which is hidden a fort which was part of the fortified belt of Liège designed by General Brialmont in 1888 and which, along with eleven other forts, participated in the Battle of Liège in 1914. The non-profit organization "Les Amis du Fort de Lantin" acquired this historic site in 1983 and since then has preserved it, maintained it and replaced certain parts such as the flagship dome and the 120 dome with its rotation system. . Besides this material aspect, the fort remains an important witness to the past of Liège: the battle of 1914. To revive this strong moment of the 1st World War and interest a large audience, the association has set up a course- show with audio guide (4 languages) which makes the visit more attractive. ""Video"" sequences remind the visitor of the evolution of the fortifications over the centuries as well as the main events of the 1st World War and more particularly the battle of Liège in 1914.Scenes reconstructed from the personal notes of a former soldier, sound and light effects immerse the visitor in the tragic atmosphere experienced by the garrison during the bombing of the fort in August 1914.

The area's outbuildings house two exhibitions which show works coming from the castle's collection. "Jehay's Cabinet of Curiosities", "(Extra)ordinary birds" and "Amazing paintings!", allow visitors to discover two specific aspects of this vast and remarkable collection of works of art. The castle, surrounded by moats, is located in an idyllic setting. The Italianate parks and gardens are truly verdant settings in which, particularly, remarkable trees and trained lime trees edging pathways jostle for position. The old vegetable garden, dating back to the 19th century, has recently been restored. At the edge of the wood, surrounded by a brick wall and spreading out over a one-hectare area, the setting invites daydreaming. Visitors will be able to discover varieties of old vegetables, edible flowers, fruit trees or delicate roses … Timetable : From Tuesday to Friday, from 11:00am to 6:00pm. Weekends and public holidays, from 11:00am to 6:00pm. Last entries accepted at 5:00pm. Closed on Mondays and on 1 May. Admission free on the 1st Sunday of April to October

A voir absolument !
